Book club questions for Conform by Ariel Sullivan
Use these discussion questions to guide your next book club meeting.
What did you think about the world-building in the novel? What questions did you have about the way the society Sullivan depicted works?
Talk about the role of art. Why do you think the Illum destroy some ancient art? What does art catalyze for Emeline?
Emeline's friend Alice had rebelled at the Academy (and been severely punished for it), yet Emeline at the start of the novel is largely excited and optimistic about her approval to procreate. How did the Illum and the Elite manipulate the Minors to get them to buy into their role in society?
Overall, what was your opinion of Emeline as a protagonist? Did you admire her spunk or find her decision-making rash?
Contrast the different members of Emeline's birth family, including how they react to her defect and to her selection as Collin's mate.
Which love interest were you rooting for? Did it change at all over the course of the book? Who do you think will be end game for Emeline?
Do you think either Collin or Hal has genuine feelings for Emeline? Both have treated her badly - are their actions forgiveable? What redeems them?
