Without You

This book felt insta-lust in a way that I wasn't expecting and, for me, it cheapened their love. It read more as trauma bonding than real love. They both felt a profound loss and emptiness from Rhett's passing and they filled that emptiness with each other.

I cannot believe Julian didn't read the letters. I'm genuinely upset about that. Rhett mastered the art of calligraphy and insisted that a person's handwriting revealed how they were feeling when they wrote the message "were they in a hurry? were they careless? was it important? was the message life changing?" Seeing as Rhett wrote 6 letters to Julian while he was dying, I think they were pretty damn important. I didn't mind burying them at his grave, but it would have been a nice moment for Julian and Deacon to read them together at the grave before burying them.

The mom was a piece of work. I felt like the author threw in the redemption for the dad at the end and said the mom was getting help for her misplaced anger over Rhett's death, but it was too little too late.

I'm glad Julian and Deacon had each other and I'm glad they got their HEA, but their story could have used with better execution.
