Legend goes that long ago a Flores woman offended the old gods, and their family was cursed as a result. Now, every woman born to the family has a touch of magic.
Sage Flores has been running from her family—and their “gifts”—ever since her younger sister Sky died. Eight years later, Sage reluctantly returns to her hometown. Like slipping into an old, comforting sweater, Sage takes back her job at Cranberry Rose Company and uses her ability to communicate with plants to discover unusual heritage specimens in the surrounding lands.
What should be a simple task is complicated by her partner in botany sleuthing: Tennessee Reyes. He broke her heart in high school, and she never fully recovered. Working together is reminding her of all their past tender, genuine moments—and new feelings for this mature sexy man are starting to take root in her heart.
With rare plants to find, a dead sister who keeps bringing her coffee, and another sister whose anger fills the sky with lightning, Sage doesn’t have time for romance. But being with Tenn is like standing in the middle of a field on the cusp of a summer thunderstorm—supercharged and inevitable.

Absolutely loved everything about this book!
Enjoyed the story and the magical realism aspect. The audio not so much. Thee was no distinction between younger voice and older/present day voices of the characters, all sounded very young. Maybe would have e joyed more if read physical book instead of audio format.
I didn't expect to love this book, but I did! I whipped through it in two days and was endeared by the characters. My big gripe with romance novels usually is I don't have enough time to fall in love with the characters before they fall in love. This book did a great job of that! There were a bunch of flashbacks told through AIM chats and as a millennial, it was familiar and cozy. I loved the magic realism! Magic realism is my favorite! And I liked that the story wasn't just about the romance. Loved it all!
Epic read! Exactly what I needed.
This has all the cozy small town elements I love, but contemporary enough that feels relevant to me. The FMC is SO darn relatable, faults and all! I love her deep empathy, a desire to redeem herself, mixed with an "eh eff it all" attitude. Her constant situations are so dang uncomfortable and awkward I would cringe but also identify so much with her internal dialogue.
Her magic is so beautiful. The deep allegory of inheriting your witchy powers via maternal generations is not lost on me. Its so so empowering and comforting all at once.
The love story is delightful because it falls in the previously identified category of uncomfortable and awkward situations that are constantly at her face lol.
This books is EVERYTHING. It's quirky, relatable, lots of interrelationships especially with fellow females (her sisters and other family members,) the paranormal element is done in such a light and magical realism manner, the personal growth as well as the relationship the FMC builds with her surrounding people. It is the perfect read! I have nothing negative to say.

Magical realism and full of feelings. I enjoyed the magical bits and the love Sage has for everyone in her life. The writing is good, but the story is a little immature for women who are supposed to be almost 30. Book #90 in 2024
