I read this wanting to see the origin of The Thing and The Thing from Another World movies, wondering which ones were closer to the original sorry. The one from the 1950s is the most changed adaptation. The movies get the advantage of being a length that adds more character depth and more satisfying pacing. I can fully appreciate this story, but I cannot say that I was highly entertained by it. We get a lot of repeated descriptions, like calling McReady “bronzed” and talking about his large hands. The story is already very short, and doesn’t prolong suspense, which I think could have helped things. It wasn’t a waste of time, but I won’t ever reread it.
