Judge Esther Salas recommended this book. Skimmed. I don’t think I’m in the right space to read it. But also, I don’t normally enjoy these type of books. I prefer my healing to be talked out in person with friends or in therapy. Books on the subject just sort of leave me flat. Like the body keeps the score was so scientific and not helpful.
I love Dr. Bruce Perry and it’s a great explanation of trauma. Not what’s wrong with you. Instead, what happened to you
As a psychology major I really appreciated the neuroscientific aspect to this book. I think if you have no background in this field, Oprah made it more comprehensible as she made many real life examples out of the knowledge that was given to her. I think this book is a great start to healing because it provides you with facts and a better understanding of how we arrive at trauma and resources as well as personal understanding to take with you based in science and real life examples.
One of my favorite books. Beautifully written with compassion and understanding. Written in conversation format, which I was not expecting, but thoroughly enjoyed
