Svetlana Alexievich interviewed many people for three years, and she has let people speak in their own words about how Chernobyl affected them. She interviewed children, clean up workers, and others who experienced the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. By giving voices to the people who directly suffered by Chernobyl, the author lets the reader understand the true horror of what happened. The stories were deeply moving.

heartbreaking, numbing, sickening, unbelievable...Also rather interesting and distabilising to read this during this Covid pandemic, some unfortunate parallels and similarities in the way politics counteract science and human well-being. we never learn.
