Amy and Ambrose take on a baffling case that starts with a stolen identity. A hospitalized man claims to be a vampire but tests prove he’s not. Searching the address on his ID turns up a body shifting the case into a murder investigation. But following the clues turns up a perplexing connection to an internet chat group for caregivers of dementia patients. As they try to figure out who the man in the hospital really is, they follow a trail through some cold cases in other departments with similar m.o.s. Is there a paranormal serial killer on the loose?
This was probably Amy and Ambrose’s most bizarre case and definitely one of the sadder ones all around. Touching on the effects of trauma, dissociative disorder, and the difficulties in caring for a loved one with dementia, it’s easy to see how the case affected Amy the way it did. Despite the tragedy of the case itself, the authors do a wonderful job with adding in lighthearted and uplifting moments as well. The growth of the characters throughout the series shines through here, especially in Topaz & Steve’s marriage and their new parenthood. Amy’s parents show up to add their own chaos to the scene, dropping a major bombshell on everyone. Amy continues her soup making endeavors with some interesting combinations. I would love to see a cookbook of all her recipes. And wedding plans come together for Gavin and Stacey, with Amy and Ambrose also closer to setting a date.
