So beautifully written. Jeffrey eugenides really captures the mysterious and beautiful main characters in this book and talks about life and death in a teens. I keep finding myself picking this book up and re-reading certain parts. Also the movie that Sophia Coppola made based on this book is so spot on. Movies that are based on books usually disappoint me, but I keep finding myself re-reading the book and re-watching the movie.
The Bookclub felt Middlesex was a better read. We understand this is his first book published and maybe that’s why we did not like it as much. Some members were confused by the narrator using the word we and then switching it back to first person. Wanted to know more about the mother. The ending lacked luster. The smell, wedding dress, and other symbolism was interesting however questions were left unanswered. One member felt that some of Lux’s antics were unrealistic. Not that great of a read but made great conversation for our Bookclubs meeting.
The first two chapters had me HOOKED.. and then I fought with myself multiple times to finish the book. I lost interest. Such a shame.
