I think this book was very snarky in its time with its observations of the rich and snooty. Some of the digressions into old family histories seemed a bit disjointed and hard to follow but the humor and insights about human behaviors seemed pretty spot on even today.

An abridged version without so many outdated and, at this point, hard to understand references might be helpful; but, then we might miss out on that fun, insightful snark.

Now to watch the Reese Witherspoon movie version. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
