Genetically engineered assassin with a lethal kiss and an enhanced super soldier in a near-future world? I was sold immediately, and this book delivered.
Mia hooked me from page one. She is deadly, sharp, and full of personality, and I loved how her humor and attitude balanced the darker elements of the story. Vanguard was just as compelling in a completely different way. I was constantly questioning what he really is, how he was created, and how much of his humanity is still there. That mystery kept the tension high the entire time.
The chemistry between them is intense, toxic, and completely addictive. Their dynamic feels dangerous in the best way, and every interaction raises the stakes emotionally and physically.
The pacing is fast, the concept is gripping, and the ending completely caught me off guard. I am already counting down to book two.
