The thing I enjoyed the most about this book was the way the characters were written, and how their perception changed how you viewed their surroundings.
It didn't feel as if the author is pushing you to view characters in certain lights (good, evil, etc), it was more as if she was merely recording what a character was thinking and feeling in any given moment and letting you do with that what you will.
I fully expected to be completely on Belle's side or fully against her, instead I found myself understanding her pain as I supported her decisions less and less.
It was also easy to resonate with Nellie, as I;m sure many of us have had a friend/loved one who continuously falls back into unhealthy coping mechanisms of situations. You can find yourself torn between your love for them and your frustration of their behavior even if you understand why.
