I listened to the audio version on a friend's recommendation and it affected me deeply. The right book at the right time does that. Although I never embarked on the physical journeys that Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter, Ann wrote about, their emotional, philosophical, and spiritual journeys were very familiar to me. It's so hard to let go of our established roles, but we must if we want our relationships to evolve and remain robust. Their struggle to find their new mother daughter roles and new relationship inspires me to try harder to find my own authentic relationship with my 21 year old daughter.
