"The dehumanizing aspects of slavery are made abundantly clear, but a testament to the human spirit of those who endured or survived this experience is exalted."—Children's Literature

One of the first books I read as a 3rd or 4th grader. It introduced me to the pains and sufferings of my ancestors. I loved this book so much that I checked it out several times and reread it. I know we often don’t want to read or watch things like this because it’s always thrown in our faces, but I truly felt better connected to my ancestors after reading this book.
