Those Who Wish Me Dead

This "heart-thumping backwoods adventure" (New York Times Book Review) from bestselling author Michael Koryta will soon be a major motion picture starring Angelina Jolie and Nicholas Hoult. When fourteen-year-old Jace Wilson witnesses a brutal murder, he's plunged into a new life, issued a false identity and hidden in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. The plan is to get Jace off the grid while police find the two killers. The result is the start of a nightmare. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are slaughtering anyone who gets in their way in a methodical quest to reach him. Now all that remains between them and the boy are Ethan and Allison Serbin, who run the wilderness survival program; Hannah Faber, who occupies a lonely fire lookout tower; and endless miles of desolate Montana mountains. The clock is ticking, the mountains are burning, and those who wish Jace Wilson dead are no longer far behind. "Outstanding in every way...Don't you dare miss it." --Lee Child

Really good story!!! If I could have given it 4.5stars I would have but, I’m just not feeling compelled to give it 5stars. I never saw the movie with Angelina Jolie; a co-worker had told me once that it wasn’t very good. That’s too bad because the book was a very exciting read and I highly recommend it.
The story is about a kid who saw a murder. He and his family refused to enter WITSEC because they didn’t trust law enforcement. So, the kid was sent to a wilderness survival program in Yellowstone National Park (on the Montana side) in an effort to hide him from the killers. What followed was an action packed, thrilling story of protecting the kid from the killers who eventually found him. The protectors, the wilderness survival leader and his wife and a former hotshot firefighter (suffering from PTSD) who is now stationed in a firetower as a fire watching park ranger.
My fave character was Ethan (the survival program leader) and I loved reading about all his survival tips, tactics and skills. Some people may have found those sections boring or unnecessary but, I liked them. I’ve always been fascinated with stories about surviving the wilds. I would love to take one of those courses. If for nothing else, to find out whether or not I have what it takes to survive.
Anyway, LOVED the ending!!! Will definitely be looking for more Michael Koryta to read.
