They All Fall Down: A Thriller

It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime.

Delighted by a surprise invitation, Miriam Macy sails off to a luxurious private island off the coast of Mexico with six other strangers. Surrounded by miles of open water in the gloriously green Sea of Cortez, Miriam is soon shocked to discover that she and the rest of her companions have been brought to the remote island under false pretenses—and all seven strangers harbor a secret.

Danger lurks in the lush forest and in the halls and bedrooms of the lonely mansion. Sporadic cell-phone coverage and miles of ocean keeps the group trapped in paradise. And strange accidents stir suspicions, as one by one . . .

Pretty sure chat gpt recommended this book and that’s what I get for listening to AI and not a real human 😩 This book was horrible. Like what even was the plot ? This lady goes on a trip and people are dying left and right ? Ok.. but like there is no premise, no basis , no reasoning that makes sense in this story whatsoever. None of the characters have any substance that’s worth remembering, this is probably the most useless book I’ve read via audio. This was a rare miss for me. I gave it a 1/5 — one of the worst and most pointless audiobooks I’ve listened to. The story dragged, the characters didn’t click, and it felt like a complete waste of time. Honestly, I kept waiting for the moment it would redeem itself, but it never came. Disappointing all around, especially since I went in with high hopes.

I love retelling and adaptation of classics or known stories. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is one of my favorite books, which this book is based on. However, I would suggest readers to just read the original.

This book is told from Miriam's perspective. She is a very unlikeable character. I wish there were other perspectives of other characters to give me a break from being inside her head.

I felt the writing to be a bit choppy at parts and the pacing was off. It was too slow in the beginning, too fast in the middle, and too slow at the end.

Overall, I didn't love or hate this book.
