Claire Messud gets to the heart of love and longing and the desire to be loved 'best of all' in her emotion packed novel the Woman Upstairs. So true were her observations on love, loss, and anger that I found myself drawing in my breath with recognition and fighting off tears in the understanding of her protagonist's heartache. Not for the faint of heart, this deep book will ignite some soul searching in its readers.
