I listened to this in one day and it was not only because I was marathon preparing for New Year’s Eve but because this book is captivating. I loved Britney Spears when I was a kid. I distinctly remember having her first two CDs and listening to them on repeat on my Walkman (wow that statement makes me sound way older than I am). I didnt stay a super fan though so when the story of her conservatorship came around a few years ago, I didn’t really have any context. This memoir is eye opening. Like a lot of the celebrity memoirs I’ve read, it’s crazy to hear all the inner workings of their life because all we see is what is shared in the spotlight. Knowing what she was going through during the times of Me belting out ‘oops! I did it again’ in my bedroom is pretty mind boggling. This is an incredible read in a lot of ways and you do not need to be a Britney fan to appreciate it or to take something away from it.
It was nice to hear from Britney in her own words. There were parts of the book that were very interesting (like her relationships with Timberlake and Fenderline), but others that just rambled on about the same thing.
Motivating.
I was 12 years old when I saw a music video for Oops!...I Did It Again , and I was quickly captivated by her music. Britney Spears is the first American singer I admired, and I continue to do so. I disliked the way everybody criticized her, especially since they didn't know the whole story. I still have most of her music. I still wish I could see her in person. When I learned about her book, I was excited. The Woman in Me which is a suitable title for her memoir. I wanted to hear Britney's story because I was always curious about whether or not what was said about her was true.I wondered how she had survived her father's conservatorship for so long, and why she didn't attempt to get out sooner. Britney Spears has been through a lot, and even though I don't know her personally, I admire what she has accomplished.
I can't imagine writing something so personal; going through this once was difficult enough. I was skeptical of the media and wondered how much of what they were reporting was accurate. I was furious at her family; she had done so much for them, and they hadn't even shown up when she needed them. I wish I could give her the biggest hug while reading The Woman in Me. Britney Spears is a strong woman who can handle it all. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read her story. I hope she can finally become the woman she desires and find happiness.
