The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, 1)

In the tradition of Kristin Cashore and Cassandra Clare comes The Winner's Curse, a brilliant, unputdownable, star-crossed romance from New York Times bestselling author Marie Rutkoski.

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

They were never meant to be together. As a general's daughter, seventeen-year-old Kestrel enjoys an extravagant and privileged life. Arin has nothing but the clothes on his back. Then Kestrel makes an impulsive decision that binds Arin to her. Though they try to fight it, they can't help but fall in love. In order to be together, they must betray their people . . . but to be loyal to their country, they must betray each other.

Set in a new world, The Winner's Curse is a story of rebellion, duels, ballroom dances, wicked rumors, dirty secrets, and games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

The Winner's Curse was one of those books that was making waves and had a hefty dose of the HYPE MONSTER. While it was enjoyable, I don't think I love it as much as others seem to.

Honestly, this is probably due to the narrator. Her voice is so irritating. It's shaky and gruff and just didn't work. Okay, it did where Arin was concerned but for everything else? NOPE.

I had a lot of issues with the hypocrisy of the characters and romance was one that kind of made my stomach hurt. It was slow at times too. In any case. I will continue the series, though. So YAY for that.

seven months reading its five first chapters and two nights to eat it whole. What I mean, it has a very slow start, and is hard to get into, I only fell completely for it on the 20th chapter, and it is quite a lot. I don't think people use to go that deep becore giving up; but once you do like it, you're done.
very quick and much fun to read, way better that it semed, actually going to read its sequel.
