I enjoyed this book I had a hard time getting into it at first, but that might be me.
While this book works just fine as a stand-alone, I do wish I’d have realized it was book 3 in a series because 1) giving faces and accents to characters was hard to keep up with in the beginning, so even if I only came into it knowing Elin, that might’ve been helpful, and 2) maybe it would’ve explained more about whoever Sam is and what the significance of the boat murders were? Maybe not, but those seemed really out of place, especially given how well Pearse seems to intuit what the reader is thinking needs to be tied up through the rest of the book.
Overall great read that kept me on my toes. The end invoked a lot of emotion, and Pearse did a great job tying up the “now what” loose ends when all was revealed. I’m also left feeling inspired to make personal maps!
This is one of the most impactful books I have read this year
