I’ve given myself about an hour after I finished reading this book, to let me collect my thoughts.
I can absolutely see why people love this book. It’s just that for me it was a little underwhelming.
The pacing was definitely slow but my main issue with this book was the synopsis. I wish the synopsis wouldn’t have encouraged the reader to “read between the lines.” I tried to just take this book as it was and not overthink it... but by chapter five or six I had already figured out the big twist that’s revealed 40% into the book. There were a couple of lines that were written (it was like a switch that was flipped in my head) that made me connect the dots.
I wish I would’ve been able to experience that twist with everyone else. I felt like the synopsis essentially deprived me of a good plot twist.
I enjoyed the storyline and felt intrigued about the secrets that had yet to be unveiled.
It’s personally hard for me to become interested in domestic thrillers. I don’t tend to enjoy books with marriage issues. The only domestic based plot I’ve enjoyed was It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. So unfortunately I tend to compare all other books with this theme to the unrealistically high standards of a Colleen Hoover book, which isn’t fair to the author(s).
