The True Bastards is the second book in Jonathan French's gritty fantasy series, The Lot Lands.
Up front, this series is definitely on the darker side, there is a lot of language and the characters get pretty vulgar. And I love it. Think if Joe Abercrombie's Northman were half-orcs - BAM! You have The True Bastards!
I was recommended this series by a friend of mine and boy did she ever nail it with these! The first book, The Grey Bastards, was a surprise hit for me. The sequel - EVEN BETTER! We got some amazing character growth and development, our world got expanded and explored more, and the plot just really got interesting. The magic system also got some love in this one and I think there is still more to see from that element as we continue further. I am about to die to get my hands on the third book later this month!
