The Travelling Cat Chronicles
A book that "speak[s] volumes about our need for connection--human, feline or otherwise" (The San Francisco Chronicle), The Travelling Cat Chronicles is a life-affirming anthem to kindness and self-sacrifice that shows how the smallest things can provide the greatest joy--the perfect gift for cat lovers and travellers! We take journeys to explore exotic new places and to return to the comforts of home, to visit old acquaintances and to make new friends. But the most important journey is the one that shows us how to follow our hearts... An instant international bestseller and indie bestseller, The Travelling Cat Chronicles has charmed readers around the world. With simple yet descriptive prose, this novel gives voice to Nana the cat and his owner, Satoru, as they take to the road on a journey with no other purpose than to visit three of Satoru's longtime friends. Or so Nana is led to believe... With his crooked tail--a sign of good fortune--and adventurous spirit, Nana is the perfect companion for the man who took him in as a stray. And as they travel in a silver van across Japan, with its ever-changing scenery and seasons, they will learn the true meaning of courage and gratitude, of loyalty and love. This book was charming, cute, funny, and touching. Just like Nana. Iâm a sucker for stories where you go on an adventure and meet different people with different stories and see different places. I knew what was going to happen from the beginning, but I still cried when it did. Also, I loved seeing Nanaâs character development. Maybe parts were a little cheesy, and maybe Satoru wasnât a super round character, but The Traveling Cat Chronicles is still a lovely little book.

Nicely translated. At first I thought it was just a sweet story but I confess it did cause me to shed a few tears - and do not often do that when reading a book. Thankfully it does not sadden you for long.
I'm so glad that the first book I read after nearly a half year reading slump was this. It made laugh my heart out, and sob like a baby for all the right reasons, especially at a time in life when I'm dearly missing two of my family cats back home. Nana's humour and Satoru's magnanimity have been my companions for the last two nights and I'm a little (read VERY) sad about not having them to tug me to a peaceful happy sleep. I don't think there's any character that I didn't love, they're all crafted so realistically with the good and the bad, but above all, with characteristics that most make us human.
Until Hiro Arikawa writes something else with a cat's POV, I see myself picking this up over and over again from its justly deserved spot on my favourites shelf. :)

This book tells a beautiful story of the bond between animals and humans, and all the ways in which love and companionship exist. It is a reminder of all the love, beauty, and tragedy that make life what it is
