I love Ashley Poston’s books because she always sneaks a little magic into the story. Watching the characters untangle the impossible while somehow finding each other never gets old. This one was charming, whimsical, and exactly the kind of sweet summer read I was in the mood for. 4⭐️ Book #48 in 2026

My Review:
I completely fell in love with Ashley Poston’s writing after reading The Seven Year Slip, and I’ve been chasing that same magical feeling ever since. So when I saw The Someday Garden, I knew I needed it immediately.
Much like The Seven Year Slip, this story blends magical realism with heartfelt emotion, creating a reading experience that feels both whimsical and deeply human. After several heavier reads this month, it was exactly the escape I needed. Poston’s lyrical writing drew me in from the very first page, and I quickly found myself enchanted by Lilymoor, its beautiful gardens, and the mysteries hidden within its grounds. The gardening elements, flowers, and lush setting brought the estate to life so vividly that I never wanted to leave.
When Sophie arrives at Lilymoor, she’s carrying the weight of grief and uncertainty after the loss of her best friend. What begins as a temporary gardening position slowly becomes something more as she finds herself drawn into the lives of the estate’s residents and invested in its future. I didn’t expect grief to play such a significant role in this story, but I appreciated how thoughtfully Poston handled it. Sophie’s journey felt honest, tender, and relatable.
I adored the supporting cast, especially Eula. How could you not love a sharp-tongued, lovable older woman trying to navigate her own losses while protecting the estate she holds so dear? She brought so much warmth, humor, and heart to the story. Her nephew, Oliver, added humor and charm, while the mysterious man trapped within the magical garden brought another layer of wonder and intrigue. While I enjoyed Oliver overall, some of his choices throughout the story kept me from connecting with him as deeply as I had hoped. Even so, the residents of Lilymoor were delightful, and I loved watching their lives intertwine.
The mysterious hidden garden and the secrets surrounding it were easily one of my favorite parts of the story. The magical elements felt enchanting without overshadowing the emotional heart of the novel, and I found myself eager to uncover the truth behind the garden and its impossible resident.
At its heart, The Someday Garden is a story about grief, healing, hope, and finding the courage to bloom again after loss. Filled with memorable characters, enchanting magic, and a setting I never wanted to leave, it reminded me why I enjoy Ashley Poston’s books so much.
One quote that especially stayed with me was:
“If a garden can change and still be beautiful, why can’t we?”
I thought that sentiment perfectly captured the heart of this story and its gentle message of growth, healing, and embracing the changes life brings.
While The Seven Year Slip remains my favorite of her novels and still holds a special place in my heart, The Someday Garden was an enjoyable read in its own right. I loved the atmosphere, the gardens, and the magical elements woven throughout the story. Although a few character choices and content elements kept me from fully connecting with it on the same level as some of Poston’s other books, its themes of healing, found family, and second chances lingered long after I turned the final page.
Content Note: I’d personally rate this one PG-13. Readers can expect themes of grief and loss, some mild language throughout, scenes involving alcohol (including one character becoming quite drunk), a brief discussion of polygamous relationships, and sexual content. While much of the romance is relatively mild, this is not a closed-door romance and does include an on-page, descriptive sex scene. Readers who prefer closed-door or cleaner romance may want to keep that in mind.
Ohhh this turn out to be such a sweet endearing story!! Reminded me a lot of the Seven Year Slip. Only thing I’m upset is why you do her friend like that!?!? 😭 I loved this touching storying about letting go and moving on. 🥰
