The Shadow Rising (The Wheel of Time, Book 4) (Wheel of Time, 4)

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Shadow Rising, the fourth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al’Thor now wields the sword Callandor. He is both the Champion of Light and the Dragon Reborn. Now, he seeks answers to another prophecy that lies with the warrior people known as the Aiel to put him on the path of learning how to wield the One Power.

Accompanied by Moiraine Damodred, Rand arrives at the Aiel Waste and is granted permission by the Wise Ones to enter the sacred city of Rhuidean. After passing through a doorframe ter'angreal, Moiraine gains foresight while the Aiel await Rand's return, either with both arms marked by dragon symbols, validating his identity as He Who Comes With the Dawn, the Chief of Chiefs of all the Aiel—or to never emerge at all.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Being late to the Wheel of Time series, I have a lot of catching up to do. Everyone is on the final book by now and I'm still at book number 4. That's ok though, I have a world of adventure in the form of a large number of books to look forward to and I couldn't be happier. The Shadow Rising is one such adventure that was a lot of fun to read. The characters in the story are finally starting to come unto their own and you can really see how they have matured over the 2 years since the series (in the book world time) began. Rand has taken up the mantle of the Dragon Reborn and is venturing out into the wastes to meet his blood - the Aiel. Elayne and Nynaeve go there own way to handle some pressing matters and Perrin and Fiel become closer and closer throughout the novel.

You can really start to see how the novels are going to play out in the upcoming books. Two things you notice in the novel is that Rand continues to have the weight of the world on his shoulders while trying to deal with his new found powers, and Perrin is a leader who all men will follow. Mat's strange fate has him speaking old languages and knowing things he shouldn't know which is going to be fun to see how that turns out.

All in all, a great book in a huge series and I couldn't be happier to have found this series.
