The book was recommended to me by my daughter. The first few chapters were a bit slow. But after that I could not put it down. These are serious heavy books, one has to pay attention while reading or listening. It’s a story of Daniel Sempere a 10 year old boy whose story is told in 4 books as he grows to adulthood. It’s a dark gothic mystery about Barcelona in the 1930’s. The story and characters are developed with remarkable detail. The author’s flair for writing is beautiful and fluid. There are 4 books in the series. I read and listened to 3 in a month and now finishing up the 4th and I don’t want it to end. If you are looking for something new from the ordinary, pick this book up, I guarantee you, you’ll not be disappointed. I enjoyed it even more because we had spent a week in Barcelona and while reading I recognized some of the places mentioned in the book. I truly enjoyed all the books and am depressed now that this author won’t be writing anymore books. He’s a phenomenal writer. Hope you pick up the book.

This is my favorite book! It has everything I look for: mystery, adventure, fantasy, and my favorite part- set in Barcelona!
