A good book transports the reader to another time, another world and another place. “The Secret River” did all of these things for me. I found myself immersed in the descriptions of events, characters and locations. We are supposed to learn the lessons of history and for me, living a comfortable 21st century life, these lessons sat in the far recesses of my mind until a novel of this calibre took me out of my comfort zone into the realities of life in times past. I would recommend this book but prepare yourself for some horrific descriptions that are more vivid than might be viewed on the screen.
