The Secret

The worldwide bestselling phenomenon that has helped millions tap the power of the law that governs all our lives to create—intentionally and effortlessly—a joyful life.

In 2006, a groundbreaking feature-length film revealed the great mystery of the universe—The Secret—and, later that year, Rhonda Byrne followed with a book that became a worldwide bestseller.

Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions, and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of The Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.

In this book, you’ll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life—money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every interaction you have in the world. You’ll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that’s within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life.

The Secret contains wisdom from modern-day teachers—men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth, and happiness. By applying the knowledge of The Secret, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles, and achieving what many would regard as impossible.

This book gives informative insights about manifestation, the impact and power of positive thinking, the power of a positive mindset and overall understanding on how to live a positive life. For me this was one of the first books I read when I started my journey of transformation. It helped me to understand how simple it is to live a positive life. Most people make life more difficult than what it needs to be (I was one of those people lol.) Overall the book helped me to heal from relationships, change my thinking and seek the good in ALL things no matter what the circumstances are. Easier said than done but with awareness, dedication and determination you too will be able to live a positive life. I personally recommend the audio version of this book so you're able to listen wherever, whenever, and however many times you need.

I was really hoping to like this book, mostly cause of the hype surrounding it. I went into it with an open mind. Didn't sit right with me.

I don't like the way the book is laid out. It feels more like a random collection of quotes with a couple of Rhonda's thoughts sprinkled in here and there. Except they're not her thoughts, they're just paraphrases of the already mentioned quotes.

I don't like the way the quotes are distributed. It feels very random. I might have enjoyed it more if she gave up on the individual quotes throughout the book, named chapters after the people she quoted and let us read their arguments in full. This, however, reminds me of a lot of my colleagues' essays at university - they use quotes as a way to reach the word count, not in a meaningful way that is supposed to add to their arguments. This is essentially what the author does: she inserts a quote and hopes the quote will do the job for her, without any explanation or elaboration - besides the paraphrasing of the quotes, of course.

The author often claims things that sound like they are, pardon my French, whipped out of her ass. There is no reference to any sort of research, any quotes or articles to support these claims which are supposed to be some sort of holy grail. When she spoke about quantum physics, I had to put the book down for a couple of minutes

The book is incoherent with no real feeling of progress and it is very repetitive. I had to check multiple times to make sure that I wasn't reading the same page again and again because a big part of the book is just the author trying to figure out how to paraphrase another paragraph that contains the same idea we have already read five times.

Multiple parts of the book are very contradictory. Trust the universe that you already have it, but also work for it, but not really cause the universe will then give up. If you get cancer, it's your fault, so you need to heal your thoughts and watch comedies all day, but also sometimes it's ok to take medicine. Only sometimes though, because at other times, by taking medicine you are accepting the fact that you are sick and sending it out into the universe. (?)

Some of the ideas the author supports in this book are straight up disturbing and harmful: if you get sick, it's your fault; if you're poor, it's your fault; if you get hurt or die in an accident, it's your fault - but not just yours, it's also the fault of other people that were involved in it because they were vibrating at a low frequency; if you support any cause such as fight against terrorism, fight against war etc., the universe will send you terrorism and war back and perpetuate the problem. (?)

What I did like about the book was how the author spoke about gratitude and love, self love, positivity, setting your mind on something and getting it. I agreed with certain parts where she talked about those topics. I can also appreciate the spiritual comfort it seems to have brought to some of my friends and colleagues who recommended this or claimed the book changed their lives.

That is the reason why I'm giving The Secret two stars.

That, and I might feel a slight feeling of shame for thinking this would be a good Christmas present for my mum...
