Retellings are a hit or miss a lot of the time but this was a hit!
Rebecca made, The Little Mermaid her own by using the story as inspiration and NOT a guide line, something I believe to be key in making a retelling intriguing.
There were several points where I wasn’t sure what to expect, while others showcased small parallels to the original.
For example, the atmosphere felt extremely familiar, making it easy to emerse into the pages, but the rolls of several characters differed drastically.
If Ursula from little mermaid suddenly became a wildly hot squid man that’s relatively selfless to those he cares about and good with his hands among other things, this is the book to scratch that itch.
