This true story is nothing short of inspirational! It reads like a novel and moves at a nice pace. After finishing the book it was that time of year for the autumnal French General at Warm Brook Barn week/weekend. In honor of Mary, the protagonist, I drove back roads all the way from Massachusetts to Meleen's in Vermont, hoping to spot historic reminders of the 1950s, this story's time period. Lo and behold, in the Sunapee, NH, area, I saw an old ESSO gas station sign marking a foliage-encrusted structure. Felt like a score!
