The Rhythm of Time is a middle-grade sci-fi adventure centering on seventh-grader Rahim Reynolds and his inventive best friend Kasia Collins. Rahim wants to be a rapper and shows great interest in 90’s Hip Hop. His father, however, does not support this interest—not only does he dislike hip-hop, but he is also highly tech-averse—leaving Rahim to rely on Kasia for encouragement and support on both fronts.
All heck breaks loose when one of Kasia’s inventions sends Rahim to 1997–and Rahim learns that his actions there may impact his future. Will Kasia be able to get Rahim back to the future before he changes everything?
The story was well written, nostalgic, and a quick, engaging read. I loved the relationship between Kasia and Rahim, the inclusion of a strong female lead in STEM, and Rahim’s deference and celebration of hip hop culture. While targeted for middle schoolers, this is a great read for any age.
