This is my second book of Chitra Divakaruni and she didn’t fail to captivate me with her beautiful prose. In this book, the story is being narrated by the enigmatic Panchali herself! The author’s attempt at turning such a great epic into a 360 page novel is absolutely commendable but it has its own pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Panchali’s perspective of Mahabharath is intriguing and will keep the readers engaged and wanting for more.
2. Beautiful words for Indian Mythological Fiction lovers that will keep them hooked to the book.
Cons:
1. The writing style is gorgeous without a doubt, but the whole plot seemed to be rushing through the pages which makes it difficult for the readers to connect with the characters. I wanted to weep for Draupadi but I couldn’t. I wanted to adore a few characters, but I couldn’t. I wanted to despise a few others, but I couldn’t.
Overall, this is an enjoyable read for Mahabharath lovers.

It's such a ridiculous take on the great epic of Mahabharat. Definitely not a book to read if you are interested to know the story of Draupadi. She was a warrior, a feminist, a dedicated wife. Why is attracted to her abuser (Karna) and why is it depicted that even her abuser is interested in her? Like where does the writer get these absurd ideas? Why is behaving like a pseudo feminist?
Draupadi has often been treated as a side character, the woman of the story, one not as important as Krishna or the Pandavs or the Kauravas, but reading from her perspective will change everything ✨
