It takes a lot for an author to take a story as familiar as Anne Boelyn and to shed some new light on it. It's apparent that Gregory does a lot of historical research but then as she writes she makes choices about what theories to pursue. What I appreciate about this book was how much it made me think about the implications of King Henry's divorce from Katherine of Aragon and how that paved the way for his later treatment of Anne herself.

I just want to add here that the 4 stars is for pure entertainment value, not the quality of the writing.
i was skeptical of this. i normally dislike historical fiction. this drew me in from the beginning. i spent every spare minute i had reading. loved it!
