The text on the sleeve and the cover reviews were what got me but definitely did not meet expectations. Honestly, I feel like the story could have been told in 100 pages, not the 300+ it is. I found myself liking the best friend, Malaika, more than the main character and I wish we could have learn more about Diana and Kendra. It just feels like a lot of the real plot was left out, and instead we only got filler content.
While it’s described as thrilling and a page turner, most of the plot happens in the last forty pages or so. And even then it’s not really a page turner “keep you on the edge of your seat” kind of book.

I completely failed. This one is a DNF for me at 40% and I had such high hopes.
I was too bored to actually get through this one even though I sped up the narration. I was curious about where this was going so jumped on the internet to get the ending. If you're like me and are curious too, I found this write-up.

Glad this was just a library rental for me. I really would have been pretty sad if I'd paid for this audiobook.
Ratings are all over the place on this book. Some reviews are from folks who really hated this book while on the opposite spectrum others loved it. Sadly for me, I'm in the former category. I didn't actually "hate" everything that I listened too, but it was too slow and too boring without the story really unfolding fast enough to hold my attention.
You know how I'm gonna end this "can't love everything".

If this book is supposed to be a cross between The Devil Wears Prada and Get Out, it falls short of both.
