The Night Circus: A Novel

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

I don't understand the hype for this book. The author was trying to be so deep that it fell flat.

A secret competition. Two magical children bonded against each other. An extraordinary circus created to be the location of competition. The story follows Cecilia and Marco over 20 years of learning and sharpening their natural abilities and the cause and effects of their actions. The story takes place near major cities around the world in the late 1890's and early 1900's. The fascination with magic and the occult makes the night circus a favorite adventure for the locals.

Very descriptive and easy read! Dates were a little out of order but done on purpose! Loved the love story and loved all thr magic the story brought to the forefront of the circus
