What a sweet and charming story! The characters are fun, quirky and believable and our protagonist/heroine - Edith - is incredibly disarming and endearing :) I love these types of tales...seeking purpose, gaining a much-needed found family, and also finding love and friendship in unlikely settings and circumstances at that juncture of chance and fate. The bakery backdrop and sprinkle of magical realism to elevate one's spirits is also very satisfying - and readers must find a warm pastry (or two) along the way to curb those patisserie cravings! (*Mmmm...croissant crumbs in the pages...?) It's always enjoyable reading about characters' growth (Mme. Moreau, Hugo, Manu...) and commitment to pursuing their dreams while remaining true to their authentic selves

I thought I would really like this, alas I did not. Spoilers How in the world did Edith not know where we was going to work and live?! Due to this I thought she was much younger, but then realize she isn't a kid. Why didn't we get more of the history sooner? Hugo could have become aware of his family secrets and kept them and that would have been a bit more interesting than their silly back and forth. The you guide could have discovered something about the Moreau family... The apparition in the basement is the mysterious part I guess, but it could have been so much more fleshed out.
