So this is a book about a guy who... likes to go to the movies! No, seriously, this book just never really took me anywhere. I kept feeling like it was building up to something, and then... nothing.
Set in post WWII New Orleans, it's the story of Binx Bolling, on the verge of turning 30, and on a search for "authenticity," whatever that means. He seems unable to really connect with people, doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life, has some manic-depressive cousin, and other interesting family members and others, but at times it's hard to keep these other peripheral characters straight. A little bit of dry, wry humor sprinkled in there, which kept things going for me, but in the end, where does it all lead?
