Yeah, it has whole pages of stage directions. But have you seen it performed? Those parts are such a gut-punch. I do think it's hard to show how Miss Sullivan's life led her here and the flashbacks and monologues might not have been the most imaginative way to compensate, but they're such a small part of the play. Her relationship with Helen is the most compelling part and the part that sucks you right in - mutual frustration, but also hope. We read this in my play-reading group and honestly, if you read this aloud and don't find yourself tearing up...you may be made of wood.
