A historical fiction with a dual timeline. In the present day Julia meets Eli, am ex-con with a young son, who helps her with her peach orchard and the inn she is running. In 1864, Charlotte is married to Edgar, but falls for a handsome Union officer who has commandeered their home to be used as a hospital.
Both stories were very compelling and held my interest. When Julia finds some of the letters Charlotte had written to Edgar, she becomes interested in the history of the house. There are two love stories here - Julia and Eli and Charlotte and Edgar and both are instances where insurmountable obstacles have to be overcome. What will happen when Julia discovers Eli is a convicted felon? How can Charlotte, who is still married, continue a friendship with Edgar?
