2023 EDGAR AWARD NOMINEE, LILIAN JACKSON BRAUN AWARD

"An absolute joy to read. Funny, entertaining, and beautifully written." --B. A. Paris, New York Times bestselling author

A delightfully clever new mystery from creator of BBC One's hilarious murder mystery series Death in Paradise

Meet Judith: a seventy-seven-year-old whiskey drinking, crossword puzzle author living her best life in a dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of Marlow.

Nothing ever happens in Marlow. That is, until Judith hears her neighbor shot while skinny-dipping in the Thames. The local police don't believe her story. It's an open and shut case, of course. Ha! Stefan can't be left for dead like that.

Judith investigates and picks up a crew of sidekicks: Suzie the dogwalker and Becks the vicar's wife. Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.

When another body turns up, they realize they have a real-life serial killer on their hands. And the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape...

Robert Thorogood, has turned the Christie-mystery on its head with this ever-so-sly cozy perfect for readers who love Richard Osmond's Thursday Murder Club and An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good.

"Lightweight but no-nonsense and genuinely brainy"--Kirkus Reviews

"Damn right funny and heartwarming...great fun"--Crime Time

"I love Robert Thorogood's writing."--Peter James, international bestselling author

This was a fun and cozy read with a twisty plot, unexpected adventure and friendships and triumphant moments that will have you cheering our main ladies - Judith, Suzie and Becks on - :) Personally, I love small town settings full of mischief and secrets - found family tropes and mature female protagonists à la Marple - this one is bold, brazen and full of gumption! - and this story has all these pull-factors As an avid mystery lover - this was very enjoyable and unputdownable, however it was a bit predictable for me (*but will likely not be for other readers) and really I am excited to have found another great mystery genre author in Mr. Thorogood and am looking forward to reading another segment in this sleuthing series!

Just when you thought you knew who the murder is, there is a change in the search for the killer. Entertaining, some added humor, and a lot of false clues. My kind of "who done it" mystery reading.

What a fun read! The characters are quirky and show depth and dimension as the mystery unfolds. No one is quite what they seem. Not the 77 year old crossword puzzle creator, the gruff local dog walker or the perfect vicars wife who form an unlikely friendship as they team up to solve a series of murders. An interesting solution that I only partially figured out. Light-hearted fun from the creator of "Death In Paradise"

I am currently listening to this book on audio from Libby app where you can borrow books from your local library. I am enjoying the Queen’s English as the author tells the story. Things are unfolding and yet keeps you guess.
