This novel was better than I expected. Romance, intrigue and murders solved! The heroine isn't insipid and dumb, she's actually quite brilliant and brave. The main characters have layers. And maybe the best part, the "slightly older widow and younger man" story is a breath of fresh air from the "virginal ingenue and thorny older (usually much older) man" romance novel trope. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
