I enjoyed this book. I listened to it as an audiobook. I like when books tell two different stories that are related in some way and as the books progress the stories come together at the end. This book was about Nella, an herbalist, who dispensed poisons for women in 1700s because of something tragic that happened to her when she was younger. A 12-year-old girl enters her shop to buy poison for her mistress and ends up harming Nella's business with a single act. In the present day, Caroline is in London for her 10th year wedding anniversary when she discovers a blue vial with a bear etched on it. This vial is the same one that Nella used for her tinctures back in the 1700s and Caroline starts investigating the origin behind the vial while dealing with her marriage.
I think the book was medium paced, dark and emotional. I would give it 4/5 stars because the author tied both stories together really well. I didn't like what Caroline did with the vial at the end of the book though.

I really liked this book! It's told from 3 POVs and 2 of the them are in the same time period so it's easy to follow (I have found others like this can get confusing)
Themes of feminism and women empowerment. With a mix of poison, vengeance and history!
I will definitely be checking out some of Sarah's other books!
Creative storytelling; took a few chapters to understand the narrative and the changing of the authors voice. Good visuals and emotion from each character as you moved through the timelines. Would have liked to hear more about the Eliza storyline in the end, and maybe a little more detail into how Caroline really made the connection that the artifact she pulled was Eliza’s and the emotion on making that discovery. But that’s a personal preference I do feel the author wrapped it up very nicely!
I'm glad Caroline stood her ground and stood up for herself. This separation was an excellent idea. And now she's going back to pursuing her dreams and passions!
So happy for her.
Eliza married Tom! Honestly, that one scene he was in, their meet-cute, was wholesome and adorable, and I loved it so much. I'm glad she got the future she deserved.
Nella and Eliza, I loved their dynamic and how they stayed in each other's lives for the rest of their days. Eliza is the daughter that was taken from her, and for her to find happiness with her is wonderful. I just hope she went back to the ways her mother did things.
Frederick doesn't deserve to control her life the way he did.
Also, James is an asshole. And that's all I have to say on that matter.
