The Long Walk

*SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE COMING SEPTEMBER 12, 2025*

In this #1 national bestseller, master storyteller Stephen King, writing as Richard Bachman, tells the tale of the contestants of a grueling walking competition where there can only be one winner—the one that survives.

In a dystopian near-future, America has fallen on hard times. Sixteen-year-old Ray Garraty is about to compete in the annual grueling match of stamina and wits known as the Long Walk. One hundred boys must keep a steady pace of four miles per hour day and night, without ever stopping. The winner gets “The Prize”—anything he wants for the rest of his life. But the rules of the Long Walk are harsh and the stakes could not be higher. There is no finish line—the winner is the last man standing. Contestants cannot receive any outside aid whatsoever. Slow down under the speed limit and you’re given a warning. Three warnings and you’re out of the game—forever.

Good story but a little disturbing when the boys were being killed off when they couldn't keep up. Was predictable on who was going to be the winner as the story focus was on the main character.

The Only thing I have to say is just wow. I need to preface in saying that I usually am not unsettled by horror book, but this one got me towards the end. I do have to say that at the beginning it was difficult to keep track of the characters as well as knowing who the main character was, but it truly does the slow and steady burn truly well. I would recommend this if anyone were looking for a King book to read without the obscene time it usually takes. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

love a good psych thriller in book form. Nice page turner, which is great considering the idea that the book is literally about a long walk…anticipation and interest builds up as book goes and is well written. Ending is mildly a cliff hanger and left me needing more, but I accepted it and appreciated the end at the same time. The quotes at the start of each chapter was well played Stephen. 7.5 because it was really good and I’m just stingy/apprehensive about high ratings since I started these notes :)
