I love the Obama pair. They represent for me a cultural shift in our generation of what power couple can be and what love of democracy is. This book reads like a memoir. I am not one to step into the self help trade books section but I am at a crossroads and I know that in her much larger way so is Michelle Obama. I find her approach to the spoken word to be powerful and with that I opened myself to her book. She walks the reader through her continuing journey of self empowerment and I feel that I am sitting in the first meeting of her support group only becoming aware of my own self awareness or lack of! She is clear that she is not trying to tell anyone how to do it. It being life. She shares her experiences and her take on how she manages life's tricky ways of being life, how she processes the challenges and lives with the outcomes and moves forwards. I felt for me, she opened up doors in my own mindfulness and challenges me to think about ways I am confronting and owning my life's choices and path. She writes with passion and you can hear her narrating the words off the pages. She talks like she is speaking to a friend or a group of people she cares about. She speaks from the heart and is careful to share perspective with her own struggles and wins. Her chapter on her mother was a gift to everyone that still has mom in their life. This was an inspirational read without giving concrete guidance with to do steps, but instead cheering us on . We got this!

Based on its reviews, I'm sure this book resonates with many... just not me. Maybe I'll pick it back up in the future, but for now, it's a DNF.

Like in Becoming, Michelle Obama is so eloquent with words in this book. I see this book as an encouragement to anyone feeling uncertain about the world we live in now. She shared her doubts so we know we aren't alone.
