When you are trying to make a future the past has a tendency to try and may you pay for your present. A truly gripping book, which I read in one day. Safe to say I will be continuing with this trilogy.
This was such a page-turner! I found the first book in this series rather heavy and dark, but this book was a much better balance for me. It focused much more on the relationships between the characters, who were nicely-developed from the first book. Dementia, lost love and secrets are key themes throughout. Sad in places, rather exciting in others, the plot unravels slowly then leads on to some clever twists to wrap it all up. The Scottish history, culture and language content also strongly added to my enjoyment. I am now looking forward to reading the final book in the trilogy!
