The Last Summer (of You and Me)

Riley and Alice, two sisters now in their twenties, and as fiercely different as they are loyal, have spent every summer at their parents’ modest beach house on New York’s Fire Island. Each year, they return to the house and community they have known since they were children—and to Paul, the boy next door. But this summer marks a season of change: budding love and sexual interest, an illness, and a deep secret force all three to confront the increasing complexities of their lives and friendships

It took me a really long time to get into so it took me probably weeks to get through the first quarter of the book but after that it was better and I was eager to keep reading!

It was a lot like her young adult books. The story line was OK but I feel it could be better. There were many parts that I like but there were parts that were predictable.

I read this book for my book club. Otherwise, I probably would have never read it. I thought it was very bare and that there wasn't enough character development for me to feel any kind of sympathy for any of them. Also, I think part of the problem was that she jumped from perspective to perspective, and that weakened the story in the end. I think the whole story would have been stronger and I would have liked the book more if it was written from Alice's point of view only and in the first person.
