I loved the setting of this book, but it was hard to get excited about the plot as there wasn’t enough big twist or discoveries happening
This very creative reimagining of the Arthur legend was a lot of fun. The story is about Guinevere and imagines her origin as a changeling replacing the suddenly deceased original princess during her time at the abbey preparing for marriage. This Guinevere has magic and both magic and Merlin have been banished from Camelot (against Arthur's better judgement). She is sent by Merlin to make sure the king does not get attacked by magic secretly. So much of the story is rethought in this delightful novel. The writing was fluid and compelling. The characters were not typical medieval types. But who wouldn't love a novel that starts with this sentence: "There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl on the cusp of womanhood."
I adored this book! I was hesitant at first, because I feel like I've read so many spinoffs of King Arthur and Camalot, I don't even know what the real story is anymore LOL
Anyway, I loved the writing, the narrator, and the ending was perfection. I can't wait to continue this series.
Big thanks to Listening Library for the audio!
