It's a good story, but I had trouble continuing to buy Adunni's credulous simplicity. Especially given the difficulty of her life, how on earth could she never develop any ability to read the room better than that? It's not until the last few chapters that she seems to have any common sense about what to expect from those around her. Plenty of others have commented about the book's relentless string of miserable events that befall the protagonist, but no one seems to be pointing out that she brings so many of them on herself, by just saying stupid things at stupid times. I struggled to believe she would keep doing that for so long, or that she would survive if she did.
Incredible book, I got it as an audio book and it took me a little while to get use to the pigeon English , but wow after a few chapters in , what a story ! I listened over a weekend .
