really couldn't get into these. there were two stories that i more or less got into, but overall these short stories were too bleak even for me. really well written though.
Content warning for drug trafficking, violence, murder, kidnapping, emotional abuse, poverty, manipulation, and related topics. I don't typically like short story collections, but this was a real delight. There wasn't any story that I didn't like. I did listen to a full-cast audiobook and some of the narrators were hard to understand because of their low or raspy voices. The collection carried through themes of immigration, family, love, duty, and place in society. If you read one short story collection this year, I would recommend this one.
