The Eyes of the Overworld: Tales of the Dying Earth, Book 2

A highly imaginative novel with a very distinct and original vision and style. The strangeness of the world as it approaches its end, with it weird sorcery and mysterious human half-breeds, is fascinating. The characters are largely petty, vain and cruel, but invested with a great eloquence which makes for hugely engaging and funny dialogue. I find few books hard to put down, but this is one of them. An utter joy to read.

Loved as a teenager, less keen as an adult but can't quite put my finger on why - "It's not you Cugel, it's me" perhaps?
