I may not understand all of the science in this text, but I find the epilogue comforting. We are relatively certain that the universe will end. We don’t yet know how and we won’t be around to see it. The author says that the search for that knowledge is still important. It will help us to understand our universe and possibly understand ourselves.
Overall, I enjoyed this book though it was a bit uneven- slow and somewhat difficult in parts and very engaging in other parts . At times it felt like more of a philosophy book which is something I particularly enjoyed. Definitely not a good place to start if you haven't read layman physics books before. (I'd recommend starting with Brian Green and Stephen Hawkins.) But this is a nice addition of you have a general understanding of the basics.
Second favorite science book of the year. Katie's a cosmologist at the Perimeter Institute and perhaps the best author of publicly accessible astronomy today. While the subject's bleak, she's funny and you'll learn a lot of current physics in the process. She makes no assumption on the reader's background other than curiosity. I'm jealous of her storytelling and writing ability.
